Parkmobile Carbon-Metered Parking (CMP)
Carbon-Metered Parking is an award winning service developed by Cobalt Telephone Technologies (Parkmobile's parent company), which uses Parkmobile to link parking charges to the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of the vehicle being parked.
With CMP, someone using a more environmentally-friendly vehicle will be charged less for their parking. Those with higher emissions usually pay more.
Road transport is a significant factor in carbon dioxide production and with it global warming, so the aim of the service is to make people more aware of their emissions and, where possible, encourage them to use more environmentally-friendly vehicles.
Carbon-Metered Parking was offered for Council parking across the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames (see case study of the scheme). In March 2010, the service won the British Parking Environment Award.
